Disaster Strikes

On April 25,2015 a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Npal near its capital city, Katmandu. Over the next few days a series of aftershocks caused damage in Nepal and at least three other countries. By Tuesday morning, more than 4,400 people were confirmed dead and over 8,000 injured. As news of the devastation spread companies in the Global Good Network™ responded quickly by creating disaster campaigns highlighting charities supporting Nepal relief efforts.

Get the word out

YourCause clients promoted Nepal relief efforts in CSRconnect using Engagement Elements to quickly launch campaigns that provided information about the disaster and highlighted organizations for their employees to make donations. Employees were able to make donations through CSRconnect or make offline donations and request a company match.

Timely Execution is Everything

Donation frequency and the amount raised reveal that disaster fundraising is most effective during the days immediately following the disaster. Donations progressively increased during the first four days following the earthquake and then quickly declined. It is crucial for companies to execute and promote disaster campaigns quickly when employees feel a sense of urgency to support the cause. Employees demonstrated their generosity with donations reaching $1.2 million including company match dollars.
